Can I Have 3 Wishes?

Or, maybe I don't discover a magic lamp with a genie hiding in it. Maybe a Good Fairy will wave her magic wand and give me what I want. Ok, now I am over that wishful thinking part and in truth, I know that we writers never get what we want without a lot of hard work.

My hard work of the moment consists of sending out e=mail queries to Literary Agents. I want one, I need one. I should have started doing this a long time ago, but I kept putting it off. I think (I know) it was because the task seemed so daunting, so insurmountable. I'm a first time author, an unknown. How in the world can I interest an agent with my one page query letter? At least I have my eBook out there on Amazon, but you know, I really want to see 'Disfigured' in print. And all the ones in the series that will follow.

Did you know, Literary Agencies get bombarded with these same query letters in the thousands, every single week of the year? A good many of them are no doubt from would-be writers who in fact are not very good, or their writing project might be something that has been done to death. But I imagine that a lot of them are also quite interesting and well-done.

Having reviewed a number of Lit Agency websites, I learned that a hopeful author isn't likely to hear anything back for 3 months or more. And if time passes and no word comes, it means they are not interested. They don't have time to let you know they don't want you. How discouraging is this? It's like you are back in high school, and the one student left who doesn't get picked for the team, and the coach has to force a team to take you. Only, in this world of Lit Agents, no one is forced to take you.

Anyway, enough angst. I have girded my loins, so to speak, wrote (and rewrote) my query letter, and have sent it out to 2 agencies. I am looking for a couple more. I am not sure why I'm writing this tale; just felt like sharing the journey, I guess. Wish me luck!
