Choosing a Book or Movie in this Day and Age
Choosing your next book, movie or TV show was less of a problem when there were only 3 or 4 television stations, studios put out only 85 films a year, and publishing houses turned out, what, 1000 books a year? Now, we have hundreds of channels, literally millions of new books each year and I-don't-know-how-many movies with Amazon, Netflix and the rest throwing in. Hi Leslie. Thanks for your thoughts. Choosing the next, best novel is such an imperfect process! I've come to realize how skeptical I am these days. A friend might suggest something but then I have to consider their tastes, the novel's genre, does the novel's blurb capture my interest, etc. I'm recognizing for myself that I'm almost defensive about suggestions, whether they come from friends or book reviews. LOL. It's kind of funny. I usually read two books at the same time so books do make it through my "gatekeeper." I think I feel so overwhelmed by all the choices, choosing "wisely" has suddenly become pressurized! I guess we all want to safeguard our time, avoid making bad choices and hit a homerun every time at the plate.
