Your Face Has Been Hacked (Sorry) And Other Stories From The Digital Edge on CHOM FM
Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio broadcasting out of Montreal (home base). It's not a long segment - about 5 to 10 minutes every week - about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly to SoundCloud, if you're interested in hearing more of me blathering away. I'm really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up on listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry and Heather B. morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.
This week we discussed:
Everything is being hacked. From airlines to banks to your credit cards and your passwords. Watch your back.
We've had so much hacking, that security experts think we need to leave behind the world of trying to remember passwords for newer technologies like facial recognition, retina scans and the like. Sounds perfect. Sounds awesome... but, opps... looks like hackers found a simple a clever workaround for that. They used a virtual reality rendering of a face and crowd-sourced photos from Facebook. Guess what happened?
The hottest thing in social media today? Snapchat? Instagram? Have you heard of musical.ly? You're not a teen, are you? The two year old app has users uploading more 10 million videos per day and has been in the App store's top 40 since last summer (right there with YouTube and Snapchat). So, what's the deal? It's an app that allows users to lip-sync to fifteen second clips of songs. Over 100 million users are on it. It is a pop culture phenomena.
App of the week: Google Duo.
