The Greatness – Verse Us (Poems by Me)

*

There is a ticking that persists

Keeping time with the lesser law

Ice age hardware

Repurposed for the greatness

The great law holds no boundary firmly

Floating above catastrophe’s edge

It impels with the force of intuition

Loosely guarding the frontier

But not too loose

Do not underestimate the quiet legions

Of the keepers of the great law

they will not spare the rod

**

Somehow indeterminately floating

above the rails of the lesser law.

between thought and speech

freedom and freewill seem implied.

But, the rules of capital and of the minds of men

bear false witness to some greatness

Portraying it valiant and independent

But, there is naught but for the ticking

A base, monotonous tone

A symphony of brooms and vacuums,

Scratching on sweathouse floors

strained eyes, backs, and exploited talent

There is an arrogant projection

An assumption of causation

From the greater to the lesser

But this is at best an accident

Here is the error

That in some way what we believe

Informs us of truth

Rather than keeping us fed and not dead

***

This is a floating game of mind

Formed of chaos

And resembling it

As a tool for divining principles

****

Disciplining the mind is not an end

Only a means.

Rationality is no test

For achievement or causality

It is a boundary to cross

To and fro and to

A blade, wiping away the dust

That is always obscuring luminosity

****

*

Convictions no doubt offer advantage

but mostly courage

bestowing an analgesia

keeping us fed and bred

The infidelity of memes

burns clean each generation

forcing experience and wakefulness.

keeping us above the bed.

Relieving us of an eternal stasis

That would otherwise

Undermine the conditions for life

But casting doubt on the existence of our souls

****

**

Do you see the relief in this view?

The liberation, and laughter

Offered in its consequences

And the arrogance stricken down

I’m not set on piercing your heart

But filling it

With the fertile possibility

Of emptiness.

No greatness of men

But no preference for fairness

No eternal damnation

But no protection from hell

An uneasy floating

With no firmament for reference

No rug and no floor

No harbor from anxiety or death

Liberation is total catastrophe

Yet, this profound loss

manifests kindness, compassion

joy, and equanimity

And bliss
