I keep noticing that, esp in STEM fields, when women enter an academic field in larger numbers, the field itself starts getting disparaged by people who study other fields of knowledge. Like with neuroscience— since women started getting more degrees in it than before, I’ve noticed people starting to say that neuroscience is easy/ a soft science/ not a “real” science. Kind of like what they did with psychology. I’ve even noticed people start to fit their sexist stereotypes to justify why women are entering those fields and showing competency in them, like when female doctors must be studying medicine because “women are natural caretakers” or whatever.
