___AS HUMANI know now that I once knew himThey told me all about what he’d doneAnd all that had been done to himI got it all once it had sunk inHe could not stay away from bad
Now they say no good can come of himHis family had tried and failedHe now walks the streets like the undeadIn ragged clothes and five lost teethAll wait for the shame to be blotted
by time. Our partner in crimeBut no more are they holding their breathFor their shame has reached its limitAnd their patience has long lost its nameAt night he would scavenge garbage
He halted when he saw me lookingThe same glance he had that one timeA soft voice pleading for me to leaveI asked him later what I’d doneI can’t do that when you are looking
…humanity is never a shame to us…___
