Are you a Highly Sensitive Person? I am!
Are you hypersensitive? Do family and friends think you’re overreacting? Well, if you want to know more about being this way, read this reassuring post. As for me, I am hyper sensitive, and being so has both plagued me as well as been my greatest ally in the inward journey. Providing they learn to channel their energy productively, hyper-sensitives can do amazing things – creatively, spiritually, and, because their hearts are wide open, help those who also suffer – why? Years ago a friend called to tell me he read about me in the pages of a popular psychology magazine. I had no idea what he meant until he said this: “I know what you are now, you are a Highly Sensitive Person.”
No more was I judged by him for being such an empath. No more did he see my tears welling up over someone else’s bad news as silly or emotional. No more did he think me overly sensitive for feeling hurt if people were rude or unkind to me. “What do you care?” he used to ask me. Or, repeating what my mom said to me many times over the years, “You need to toughen up!” But no more.
