Guest blogger PJ Hoover
I'm really excited to have YA author PJ Hoover as my guest blogger! I loved her book SOLSTICE which combines a dystopia with Greek mythology into one yummy mix.
Here's her bio:
BIO:
P. J. Hoover first fell in love with Greek mythology in sixth grade thanks to the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton. After a fifteen year bout as an electrical engineer designing computer chips for a living, P. J. decided to take her own stab at mythology and started writing books for kids and teens. P. J. is also a member of THE TEXAS SWEETHEARTS & SCOUNDRELS. When not writing, P. J. spends time with her husband and two kids and enjoys practicing Kung Fu, solving Rubik's cubes, and watching Star Trek. Her first novel for teens, Solstice, takes place in a Global Warming future and explores the parallel world of mythology beside our own. Her middle grade fantasy novels, The Emerald Tablet, The Navel of the World, and The Necropolis, chronicle the adventures of a boy who discovers he's part of two feuding worlds hidden beneath the sea.

SOLSTICE by P. J. HOOVER: TWO GUYS—A CHOICE WITH IMMORTAL CONSEQUENCES
Hi, Kim. Thanks so much for inviting me to guest blog over here! I'm thrilled to connect with new readers! For those who don't know, my debut young adult novel, SOLSTICE, was just released in May. SOLSTICE is what happens when MATCHED meets THE LIGHTNING THIEF and is largely set in a future where global warming is destroying the earth. But parallel to this dystopic, melting earth, there exists a world of mythology. And with this world of mythology comes gods.
There may be no character more fun to write than the Greek god, especially as a teenager. Let's look at the similarities.
• Greek gods are arrogant.
• Teenagers are arrogant.
• Greek gods are youthful and good looking.
• Teenagers are youthful and good looking.
• Greek gods have amazing intensity in romance.
• Teenagers have amazing intensity in romance.
Yes, the list could go on. But for the time, let's focus on the romance. As I think back to my teenage years, it was filled with some studying, lots of hanging out with my friends, and plenty of moving from one crush to the next, most of the time at the speed of light. Each crush had something special about him; maybe a special smile, a particularly nice cologne, an interest similar to mine (you know, like Star Trek, just as an example). And if this is how my teenage years were, why should those I write for my characters in SOLSTICE be any different?
Enter two Greek gods, both pining away for our main character Piper. I'll give you my thoughts on why each guy is the perfect one for her to choose.
Shayne:
• True romantic
• Amazing kisser
• Owns lots of land
• Can stop time
Reese:
• Smells irresistible
• Likes to break the rules
• Never would back down in a fight
• Can make any gal feel alive
Sure, neither guy is perfect. But you name for me one guy who is. Right, I didn't think so. Anyway, how is a girl like Piper supposed to choose? What makes Shayne the better choice over Reese? Or Reese the better choice over Shayne? And what about their pasts? How should Piper deal with the fact that even though she knows these guys now, they have skeletons in their closets she may not want to deal with? Oh, the troubles in life.
One of the most fun things about writing a book in a series is knowing that no matter what happens romantically in book one, it could all change in book two (and yes, that is supposed to be a spoiler, so enjoy!).
Thanks so much for reading, and may your summer be a sizzling one!
SOLSTICE is available as a $2.99 eBook on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and iBooks. SOLSTICE will be released in paperback this summer.
