Reflecting Upon the 5th. Anniversary of My First and Last Novel's Release

After 25 months of writing, rewriting and polishing the manuscript, submitting query letters, and then converting the manuscript into a commercially viable book, my novel was finally released on August 9, 2011. Was it worth it? Yes! Do I plan write another novel? No! Why? Well, I'll tell you.

The project required much more effort and time than I had anticipated. However, time and effort spent obtaining new knowledge while learning and developing new skills are never wasted or regrettable.

Writing a novel and having it published was an interesting and worthwhile experience. The fact that, after five years, someone still occasionally buys a copy never ceases to amaze me. At 69 years of age, there just isn't sufficient time to write another book. There are just too many places to go, things to do and other experiences to be had.

We'll see how I feel on the 6th. anniversary.

Michael Mardel I've self-published quite a few books, in hard copy for schools and on Kindle. I haven't decided when to do a follow-up as it does take some effort.

Michael,

Anything worthwhile requires effort. Knowing you as well as I do from the numerous comments, suggestions and opinions you have shared with me, there is no doubt in my mind that, whenever you decide is the opportune time to follow up on continuing your writing, it will be the right time.

Thank you for once again taking the time to comment on a blog post.

MaryJo Dawson Love your candor! A couple of my favorite books are those the author wrote for a specific purpose, never intending to write another. And, I am not talking about what immediately comes to mind because the book became a classic.

Mary Jo,

If I were to hazard a guess, the couple of books to which you refer might be Gone With the Wind and To Kill a Mocking Bird.

I see by your author's profile that you have published seven books, all of which appear to have been well received. Congratulations. I wish you continued success.

I also see that you are a nurse. My oldest daughter is a registered nurse. I have come to realize that the nursing profession is often under rated and under appreciated. Thank you for your dedication and service to others.

Thank you for taking the time to view the blog post and comment. It is very much appreciated.

MaryJo Dawson Oh yes, those are two that came to my mind immediately.

One book I loved was loaned out - and never came back, what a loss. But I remember it so well. The elderly author and his wife were at the food court in a mall, and so was I. We got to talking... he was a retired FBI agent who wrote his book for his family, so the memories would be preserved for them, and he self-published it. He went to his car and got me a copy out of the trunk. It was well written, in the first person, and described his life as a child in Tennessee, a serviceman during WWII in Europe, and continued through a couple of decades during the Hoover years with that federal agency - most of it in New York City. He was a man of integrity and faith, and had the most interesting life!
That describes a Good book for the individual who finds such a read, yes?

Mary Jo,

What a wonderful story. That gentleman's autobiography is the embodiment of a life dedicated to serving one's country. Thank you for sharing it.

MaryJo Dawson Nice talking to you, Jim.
I wish your daughter well in the profession she has chosen, and hope she finds it very fulfilling. Like almost every other pursuit, nursing has changed drastically in the last couple of decades.

And, I have six books out. the latest in the series was released last week, and as usual I had to go to my author page and combine the two formats that are available. Did that.
