haileescomet:
My final drawing for my art class turned out pretty good for how terrible I was when I first started.
Fun fact: this was inspired by Ari Bach’s story Valhalla. They have little robots that are made out of their sternum and the robots live in their chests and they can go in and out through the skin. I’m sure the skin doesn’t open like this in the book, but it’s how I pictured it. The theme for the final drawing was transformation and it was a big moment for Violet to get her tikari so I decided to base my drawing on it.
I had to use a skull from the universities library and I really really wanted to use a walrus skull, but the one that still had tusks wasn’t allowed to be checked out so I went with a Lynx skull instead. It was easier to carry as well.
I really liked drawing this one because it was something I was actually interested in. Our other drawing assignments didn’t have a lot of freedom, but as he let go off and do more of what we wanted it got funner.
There are still a few things I could fix I just didn’t have time before the last day of class. But I still like it for what it is.
Very cool, I’m honored to have inspired it!!! The skin can open very much like that, as I imagined it. More importantly though you captured the feeling of one of my favorite moments very well :)
