Guest post from author Susan Kaye Quinn
I'm so very pleased and excited to welcome author Susan Kaye Quinn to my blog today. Susan is the author of one of my favorite YA romances, Life, Liberty, and Pursuit.
Long Distance Romance
When I set out to write Life, Liberty, and Pursuit, I knew I would have to research the ins and outs of boot camp for sailors and the program requirements for being a Linguist in the Navy, but I thought I understood the long distance romance part.
After all, I had a long distance boyfriend and lived apart from my husband for 9 months while doing my Ph.D. research.
When I dived deep into the story, I realized how wrong I was. Military families not only face the stress of separation, but both the service personnel and the families have to worry about each other in their absence. Facing ongoing danger as well as separation is part of life for military families, especially active duty personnel serving our country. We owe thanks not only the men and women in our armed services, but to the families they leave behind – often for months or years at a time.
Life, Liberty, and Pursuit takes a look at the hard choices a young couple has to face in following their dreams, but in the end it's an uplifting story about how love is stronger than anything, even distance and time.
This last weekend we celebrated the birth of the U.S. as a free country. Since that freedom comes directly from the sacrifices made by our military families, I want to give away a copy of Life, Liberty, and Pursuit plus a $25 Barnes&Noble Gift card, but here's the catch: the winner has to be part of a military family, with a loved one in the military (active duty or retired). So please tweet, FB, and share this with everyone you know, so we can reach as many military families as possible.
To say "THANK YOU!" for all you have sacrificed. And to give a little something back.
To celebrate the Summer Breeze Anthology, which has a new "after" story with characters from Life, Liberty, and Pursuit, I'm giving away special bookmarks to anyone who purchases an e-book or print copy. All proceeds go to Save the TaTas breast cancer research! Check out the details here.
Author bio: (taken from Goodreads)
Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.
Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she's met along the way.
She doesn't have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.
Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.
You can find Susan Kaye Quinn on Facebook, Twitter, and her Ink Spells blog. The Life, Liberty, and Pursuit website contains fun stuff about boot camp, love letters, and ways to support our military personnel. Life, Liberty, and Pursuit is available for purchase at Omnific Publishing, Amazon.com, and BarnesandNoble.com.
