JOHN: Bit different from my day.

STAMFORD: You’ve no idea.

The very first thing John Watson says once he’s in the same room as Sherlock Holmes is “bit different from my day” to which Mike Stamford replies “you’ve no idea.” To have John Watson - this incredibly iconic character that has permeated our culture for 130 years - explicitly say that this Barts lab, this set-up, this adaptation, is different from the old framework of adaptations whilst standing in the presence of his partner, Sherlock Holmes, is remarkable. Then Stamford sneaks in almost an aside to the viewer: you’ve no idea. You’ve no idea what’s about to hit you. You’ve no idea how different this will be from what you’ve come to expect.

love it
