You killed an angel. FL.E.S.H. on Friday Snippets #FridaySnippets

Peyton reached into his suit jacket pocket for his cellphone before he realized what happened. He crouched next to Fuchsia and dialed 911. Explaining to the emergency dispatcher the situation, he demanded an EMS vehicle ASAP. After checking her breathing and pulse, he grabbed his handkerchief. His hand shook as he pressed it against the cut on the side of her head. Shit. Please be okay. He shook his head. Well, you handled that situation about as effectively as a dumbass. He turned at the sound of a timid knock on the door. "Ms. Quinn? Can we come in?" Before he could answer, a shrill voice yelled, "You killed Ms. Quinn."The three little girls who had piled in behind the first one all screamed.Oh, Sweet Jesus. Peyton gritted his teeth and inhaled a breath to control his shock and anger. "No. I didn't kill her. She collapsed." He scanned her chest. It rose up and down with her breathing. Keep breathing. Breathing is good."Momma!" The first one yelled, and then others screeched echoes, calling for their mothers. He flinched at the brain-splitting sound. How the hell do little girls get voices like that?A heavy set woman with corn rows stepped into the class room. "Oh good Lord, Ms. Quinn. What happened?" She hurried to Fuchsia.Peyton looked up. Suspicion filled the woman's eyes. "She and I were talking, and she collapsed. She's still breathing, and I've stopped the bleeding."The woman reached into her purse. He shook his head. "I've already called 911."Movement at the corner of his eye caught his attention. He turned his head to see another mother enter. She crossed the room, stopped, and picked up the letter. Her gaze bounced between him, Fuchsia, and the envelope in her hand. "You this man? You the one tryin' to shut down Ms. Quinn's school? Why would you do that?"Rattled out of his normal sense of control, he spoke before he thought. "I don’t want to shut the damn school down. I just want her to move.""Language. There's little ones," the closest woman to him whispered. The second woman placed her hands on her sizeable hips and stood with her feet apart. Peyton had a brief memory of a Sumo wrestler he'd watched in Japan. The irate mother shook the envelope at him. He really needed to get that thing away from people. It had been thrown at him, shaken at him, and used to reduce him to the lowest of lowlifes on the Earth. A lot of trouble for a stupid piece of paper. Next time, send an email. He focused back on the mother who was still venting her anger. "She won’t move. She won't leave us. She's an angel. You killed an angel."

What people are saying about FL.E.S.H.5 Star ***** I had never read any of Daryl Devore's books and man, am I glad I read this one! Peyton is the guy we all want and Fuchsia is a girl who is not giving up on her dreams. When the two collide, everything is turned upside down and the result is hot, but also laugh out loud funny. I will definitely have to read more of Devore's books!
5 Star ***** This is the first book I have had the privilege of reading by Daryl Devote (Devore). I'm hooked!! Peyton and Fuchsia's story was full of heat and love. Their playful banter had me laughing out loud. I would definitely recommend this book to my family and friends.
