Amusing exchange with Author Central at Amazon.com
For an exercise in sheer idiocy please read the following exchange between me and Amazon.com customer services.
Background - I mistakenly added a book to my author central page by another author of the same name. My fault and an accident. So I sent this message to Amazon.com
"Please remove the book "Noble Sanctuary: Portrait of a Holy Place in Arab Jerusalem" (978-0950745305) from my bibliography. I added it in error.
Thanks."
Amazon's response:
"Hello Alistair,
To provide the best possible customer experience, we include all titles and formats available on Amazon.com in your bibliography. This includes works both in- and out-of-print.
We have reviewed your request, but our records indicate that you are the author of this title. In order to provide a complete record of your work, we are unable to remove "Noble Sanctuary". Thank you for understanding.
We hope to see you again soon.
Did I solve your problem?"
Funnily enough my answer was no. So I responded thus:
"I requested earlier today that the book "Noble Sanctuary" be removed from my bibliography. I added it in error. I received an email from Joe G. which stated:
"We have reviewed your request, but our records indicate that you are the author of this title. In order to provide a complete record of your work, we are unable to remove "Noble Sanctuary". Thank you for understanding."
Well I'm sorry but I think I know what books I did and did not write and I did not write this one. It may surprise you to know that there is more than one Alistair Duncan in the world.
I expect the title removed from my list promptly. I did NOT write it and by leaving it there you are misleading potential purchasers.
Once again I did NOT write "Noble Sanctuary" and I want it removed from my bibliography now please.
Regards,
Alistair Duncan"
I await their next reply.
