I see two things a lot on my dash:
1) Mary is moriarty, the ultimate big villain.
2) Why is Mary still on the show?

Whatever happens will disappoint quite a chunk of people, since it can’t be both.

Go #1, go.

On the other hand, if Mary is Moriarty and gets defeated in S4, then she will be off the show. Problem solved!

The thing is though, IF Mary is the BIG BAD, doesn’t that mean she’s here for the long-haul? If she’s ‘defeated’ in this series, what happens in S5? I doubt we’ll get three eps of domestic bliss. Not from this show. And now I’ve made myself sad. I don’t want her here for another series dammit!

I feel like they will resolve Mary in S4. They did kill off Moriarty, after all (supposedly) even though that was only S2. And yes, the ‘Moriarty effect’ lingers, but Jim Moriarty himself wasn’t actually in S3. So. There’s no reason they can’t have a S5 that doesn’t have Mary in it, even if she is Moriarty. I would imagine a S5 post-Mary would be a lot of recovering (esp for John) and angsty relationship stuff with possibly a new villain aka Magnussen. It might even include parent!lock.

However, I quite like the idea of Mary as Moriarty, and I like her as a villain. I would be fine with her being ‘still out there somewhere likely to crop up again as a threat someday’ as long as she is done being John’s wife, keeping John from 221B, John has explicitly chosen Sherlock (platonic or otherwise), and the whole deception/playing nice thing is over. That shit drives me batty.

But I still sort of feel like she’ll bite the dust in S4. <shugs> I have no crystal ball unfortunately so that’s merely a gut feeling.
