Gearing up for #IndiePrideDay 2016

Those who follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts will no doubt have seen the #IndiePrideDay trend popping up with more regularlity recently. You will have seen it, but you might not know what it's all about, or why it's so important.
#IndieBookBeSeen is a movement that works tirelessly throughout the year to bring Indie Authors to the forefront of readers' minds, to support Indie Authors in their endeavours and to take the Indie industry mainstream. #IndiePrideDay is a culmination of all that.
Indie Fans and Indie Authors from around the world, will raid social media with pic’s holding up INDIE books using the hashtag #IndiePrideDay
Last year #IndiePrideDay was a trending topic on Twitter. This year we not only want it to trend but to also offer a real alternative for readers and lovers of books by offering special discounts on the day.

I spent the morning researching statistics. The results vary (due in no small part to Amazon's reluctance to share data), but what I did see was hugely encouraging and may well surprise some people. There were upwards of 700,000 titles self published last year, and what's more, the market share for Indie Authors is growing. Approximately 42% of all eBook sales go to Indie Authors and that trend is set to continue.
If the figures are to be believed, then this means that readers realise that the “validation” that comes with being a traditionally published author doesn't hold as much weight as it once did. The Big 5 publishing houses have seen a decrease in their market share year on year as more authors go it alone. With your continued support, we can help take the Indie industry mainstream.
Indie Authors across every genre you can think of will be taking to social media to spread the Indie message. Readers can follow the trend on Twitter by searching #IndiePrideDay. There are a host of fantastic offer to grab – from huge discounts and freebies to competitions and giveaways. It's going to be a lot of fun!
Of course! I'll be hosting a takeover on Goodreads and joining the #IndiePrideDay Facebook event and you can too.
