The Tricksy Hummingbird Moth

Every summer I look forward to seeing hummingbirds. I have this notion that they might mean good luck. And aside from that, they're just really cute. For the past two or three summers, along with the birds, I have noticed a smaller flying creature hanging around the same flowers. At first glance I thought it was a smaller species of hummingbird. Munchkinbird or something. But on closer inspection I discovered it was in fact an insect! A moth, to be exact, sometimes called the hummingbird moth. I have never seen these lil' buggers prior to recent summers. Interesting creatures. Posers.
