1. Najib is gloating over his winning with a big majority.
2. The press reports that he won by 6,969 votes in Kuala Kangsar and 9,191 votes in Sg. Besar.
3. Actually the majority is much smaller as 10,621 votes went to other parties contesting in Kuala Kangsar so that BN’s majority is only 2,032.
4. In Sg. Besar the margin is only 2,289 and not 9,191 as the other parties gained 14,511 while BN won 16,800.
5. Considering that the BN distributed rice and electrical goods, as well as money, tarring the road and promising to build a multi-million Ringgit bridge, while Amanah is a new poverty-stricken party with hardly any election machinery, it is the performance of Amanah which should be lauded.
6. As for PAS although it managed to split the Malay votes, thus helping BN, it lost to Amanah in Sg. Besar.
7. The tactics used by BN to win is really not something to crow about either.
8. As for the Chinese voters, they have not returned to BN. Their turn-out was far below average in both constituencies, indicating their belief, as promoted by MCA, that this is a Malay quarrel and they should not take part in it. And this failure to vote is despite the goodies distributed to them by BN, and the threats regarding foreign workers.
