Some of my favorite words
There are a lot of words out there…a lot. A bunch. A ton. A gazillion. Here are a few that have stood out to me over the past few years.
Apotheosis – the peak, the climax, the height of some phenomenon. As in “the apotheosis of selfie culture.”
Cavalier – casual, dismissive, offhand. As in “Florette was totally cavalier about the whole encounter.”
Flatulent – gassy, full of hot air. As in “They didn’t call her Flatulent Florette for nothing.”
Tourniquet – a device (usually a tight cord or cloth) used for stopping blood flow to an extremity. As in “Quick! Tie a tourniquet around his bicep so I can amputate!”
Za – slang for pizza. As in “I just beat you in the game of Scrabble by playing the little known two-letter word ‘za’ on a triple word score. Now let’s order some za.”
