America does not have a problem with terrorism. America has a problem with valuing guns and personal freedom over taking care of its citizens’ education and health. It’s frankly unbelievable that the notion of a hate-spewing human sweat stain like Donald Trump running for president ever got past the level of being a not-very-funny joke, and yet here it is: he’s about to take over the free world. I don’t blame any one of you lovely people who happen to be America, whether by birth or immigration. But something is very, very wrong with this system and my heart aches for people in the US who are at risk of gun violence every single day. We are one world community, though, and things like this affect everyone. I’m saying that the rest of us are standing here with you, Americans.

How many people have to die before people understand that gun deaths like this just aren’t happening in any other country in the world to this extent? I’m just so devastated and angry. American media is constantly agonising about imagined terrorists in every pocket of the world, yet turns a blind eye to the fact that America is arming its own unstable, poorly-educated, ignorant citizens to target people dancing. There are wars out there, real wars, and real problems like malnutrition and starvation and children and women being bought and sold like pieces of furniture, and people dancing in America as being killed by their own neighbours.

It’s not enough to be broken-hearted and devastated on tumblr and twitter and facebook and whatever else. What can we actually do to make things better? This is a real question. I don’t know as much as I could about the specifics of American political structures, but could we write letters to senators? Governors? The president? Gun control laws need to change. Obama, I just read, has just addressed his 18th mass shooting in his presidency. And as he himself said, it’s not enough to be sad. What can we do? Feel free to reblog this post with your ideas. Let’s start turning the wheels of change. It’s way past time.
