Avoiding Chalk Outlines

When I was younger and not nearly as wise and mature as I am now, I thought outlining a story would stifle my creativity and kill the story. I was a writer, an artist, a free-spirit. Planning ahead wasn't any fun. But neither was never finishing anything. I had to decide which was worse, giving up my freedom or languishing among my myriad WIPs.

And then I learned that an outline isn't a steel cage.
