I liked that this was unlike anything I've read before. The theme has been done, but not quite so well as this. Shane was a difficult person to like, but I did like him. I could understand his feelings about his kids after he was in foster care. Kate was extremely likable. Her relationship with the children was a breath of fresh air. Such a great love story that isn't really insta-love, it takes time to see the two characters accept their new normal.
