Curious flight path

I heard that the Pope's plane circled the Carolinas twice en route to Washington because the President's was latw getting in to Andrews AFB. Isn't that strange, leaving the home of the guerillas in Cuba, to the seat of the Empire in DC, but circling the site where these two died? Two from his parish in Argentina.
