My Website Got Hacked
—
I got an email the other night from my website with a new post. The problem was I didn’t write or release the post. Someone used my actual login to access my website and send out a malicious post. The post was pretty sad and my real readers knew right away it was not from me.
I wish I could tell you that it was a stranger, but sadly, it was probably someone working with a person I used to be in a relationship with. I had made a cheat sheet of all my passwords and logins in case I died. My guess is that is how my website was accessed.
The last two months have been hard. It has involved the end of a relationship, attacks on my reputation with half-truths and outright lies, deep depression, financial loss, and more. I thought I had gotten to a place of being civil, but I guess I was wrong.
Be Real
The one thing that has saved me is I have built and open and honest business over the last five years. I have always tried to be transparent and real with what I am going through. Many people know me. They were there in the beginning and have watched this whole process.
It is hard to be real. You worry about what people will think about you and you worry about losing people. But, people respect you much more when you are not afraid to tell it how it is. They will respect you when you are willing to admit that you are human and are going through some things.
I will continue to be real. I wish I could break down exactly what did and is happening, but I could get in trouble legally, so I can only share bits and pieces. I can tell you that I now live in Medellin, Colombia, and my life is a lot different. I am very happy as I write this.
I still write, speak, coach, and consult. I still work hard to help people make their dreams a reality. I still want to help you build a business and life you love. I won’t change that part of my life.
The lesson that I hope you take away is that life is complicated. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control, but you control how you react. You have to control your reactions and not let them derail your progress. Know that there will always be people who want to bring you down. Some people have no life and nothing better to do, so they want to hurt what you are doing. Those people will go nowhere in life—don’t let them win.
