Hard to keep up

It's hard to keep up with all the social media in my life and so usually I just don't! Since my last blog post I have: optioned Major Pettigrew movie rights, enjoyed my paperback on the NY Times Bestseller list for 27 weeks, negotiated to translate the Major into more than 16 languages, traveled to twenty plus US cities, won an award in the UK...I'm so glad it's now summer vacation. I am working on a second novel, acquired by Random House (thank you RH friends!)and am still doing speaking engagements and online book club Skypes for the Major. I feel very lucky to be living my dream as a published author. I plan to spend much of the summer reading - and hopefully I'll remember to update my Goodreads list. Have a wonderful summer of books everyone! HS

Susan I am so glad you are working on your next book. I love the Major and can't wait for the next book. I eill be first in line at the local bookstore on release date.

Pat Chase The Major was really one of my most enjoyable reads over this past year! I too will look forward to your next novel! Enjoy your summer - I totally relate to the "social media in my life".......we have to shut it off to find peace at times! Thank you for The Major!!

message 3: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette I couldn't stop thinking about my dad when I read your book so I just gave him a copy for his birthday. Can't wait to hear what he thinks and if he identifies with the Major.

L Great news! A new book in the works.
I hope the movie will be in British hands.
Ixnay on Julia Roberts type treatment ala Eat Pray Love.
All good wishes and have a lovely summer.

message 5: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Gross Hugh Laurie must play the Major.

message 6: by Roby (new)

Roby Lawrence Mrs. Simonson - I so enjoyed this book! It's one of those in which this reader was left wishing so much that the characters were real people in my life:)
A movie would be wonderful, as long as they don't touch the storyline or the characters - Don't let them do it!
Looking forward to your next offering - I will also be first in line here in Katy, TX to purchase it.

Merry Bearden By virtue of working at an independant bookstore, I had the opportunity to read "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand" before it was released last year, and have since placed it at the very top of my list of absolute favorite books. You, Mrs. Simonson, are now my favorite new author. I have been anxiously checking from time to time to see when you will be releasing another jewel, and was thrilled today when I saw you are working on your second book. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I agree with an earlier post, I hope the production of "Major Pettigrew" will be in British hands.

message 8: by Susan (new)

Susan I too hope the movie is made in the UK. I can't see Hugh Laurie as Major Pettigrew, though. Any other thoughts?

message 9: by Donna (new)

Donna Hugh Laurie is okay but I'm thinking of a "grayed" Hugh Grant! Haven't seen him lately and he would be perfect in this.

message 10: by Susan (new)

Susan Because Major Pettigrew is retired I am thinking someone older. What about Ciaran Hinds. He is a marvelous actor and has a military bearing.

message 11: by Eszter (new)

Eszter What about Colonel Brandon aka Alan Rickman? I too hope it remains in British hands!!!

message 12: by Susan (new)

Susan I'd forgotten about Colonel Brandon! Yes, that makes sense. But I still hope it is Ciaran Hinds. He was wonderful in Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day and even more wonderful in Persuasion.

message 13: by Thereadingowl (new)

Thereadingowl Having just finished reading one of the translations a while back, I'm very much looking forward to it becoming a movie. It is so far my favourite spring-release.
I am also very happy to read that you're working on your second novel.

message 14: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Tan Write another one! The dry humour of the Major and Jasmina were wonderful!!! I had to keep reading them out loud!

message 15: by Ben (new)

Ben Law Great Book, really enjoyed the flow of events in it. Hope the movie can do it justice. Oh, and please write another one!

message 16: by Cathy (new)

Cathy I have been (impatiently) waiting for your next book!! When can we expect it?

message 17: by Mary (new)

Mary Vettel Oh, joy! Oh, rapture! Am SO happy to learn you are working on 2nd book [my favorite book of the year!] and that you have optioned the film rights. I hope you have a good deal of input so they don't ruin it.

message 18: by Diane (new)

Diane I see Major as someone like Sean Connery. He may be too old (82) but I think he would be perfect.

message 19: by Eszter (new)

Eszter Diane wrote: "I see Major as someone like Sean Connery. He may be too old (82) but I think he would be perfect."

I really like you're idea. The question is, who should play Mrs. Ali?

message 20: by Diane (new)

Diane I am not sure about Mrs. Ali but Lillete Dubey might be good. Lillete Dubey was in "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

message 21: by Eszter (new)

Eszter I'm not sure whether an Indian actress would like the idea of playing a Pakistani woman. But, maybe they should change the character for the movie, as regard to her ethnicity. And then, I would nominate Aishwarya Rai...

message 22: by Diane (new)

Diane Maybe SALMA HAYEK would be a good choice too. A casting call would find the right person.

message 23: by Susan (new)

Susan Brown Eszter wrote: "Diane wrote: "I see Major as someone like Sean Connery. He may be too old (82) but I think he would be perfect."

I agree, Sean Connery or a veteran actor of his ilk would be perfect. PLEASE tell us that the movie is indeed in British hands??? I am still reading Major Pettigrew and am totally lost in his world! I don't want the book to end and am so thrilled, Ms Simonson, that another book is on the way. I eagerly await its release.

message 24: by Deborrah (new)

Deborrah I too was immersed in Major Pettigrew's world and hated for it to end! a movie with age-appropriate actors would be wonderful - and i'm anxiously awaiting more from this wonderful author.

message 25: by Loretta (new)

Loretta I really enjoyed your book. I look forward to your second.
