DNF: Did Not Finish (a Book)

Like all book addicts, there are a fair number of books I didn't finish reading. I usually don't note those titles on Goodreads, and I have my reasons.

For one thing, I'm a moody reader. That means I have to be in the right mindframe to read a work of fiction. Everybody probably feels the same way to one degree or other.

For instance, after the death in the family, I went for a long time not reading any crime fiction, especially noir and hardboiled stuff. Sports and nonfiction was my fare. Eventually, I bounced back, and fell into my old, familiar groove.

Here's the other thing. I know what it takes to write a novel. Lots of sweat equity is involved. So, I'm not going to knock another writer's baby. When I'm paid to render an evaluation, then it's a different story. That's business. But on Goodreads, it's all about fun.
