Defenseless
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.Proverbs 25:28
In olden days, the first line of defense for a city was the walls surrounding the city. If your defense was weak or broken down, it was almost like an invitation to be overthrown and taken captive. Solomon paints the same picture of controlling our spirit. If we do not control it, we are an open invitation to being overthrown and captive to the world. We must be able to control our urges and desires or we will be a slave to the whims and passions that are tempted before us each day.
While we alone are not able to resist many of the temptations, there is One that is. And when the Holy Spirit dwells within us, we are strengthen by His presence.
Don't be over run by temptation due to a weak defense. Rather be on the offensive for Christ showing His love to others. In doing so, you will gain control over your own spirit.
