I have recently become aware, however, that a site called Vacation Home Rentals ( www.vacationhomerentals.com ) is second only to HomeAway in the popularity of its listings, and I'm chagrined that I have failed to mention it on earlier occasions. So please, add Vacation Home Rentals to the websites you consult in seeking an alternative, non-hotel accommodation. It claims to have more than 13,500 listings -- not simply in the United States but worldwide.
