Source: ABC News Former U.S. Senator and Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards, 58, has been charged in the Middle District of North Carolina with conspiracy, illegal campaign contributions and false statements for allegedly using more than $900,000 in campaign funds to hide his mistress during the 2008 Democratic presidential race. Edwards faces a maximum penalty of five years in jail and or a fine of up to $250,000 for each charge, if convicted. (Justice Dept.)
