Can the Equinox tell the difference between prized posessions and total junk?

So, as you may recall, I've been given free rein for the month with a Chevy Equinox. When I discovered that the car is smart enough to turn the seatbelt alarm on and off depending on what's in the front seat, I couldn't NOT try it out, using a few of my personal belongings.
