I am going to come out and say it, I am very bummed that Dowling's character Zoe did not, indeed, pen a book called Homemaking for the Down-at-Heart. The fictitious 'how-to' guide for the SAHM sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Damn. That said, Dowling's actual book Homemaking for the Down-at-Heart IS a brilliant read. I know so many women both young and old, that would adore this book, and good handful of men, too. I have said in regards to Dowling's other two novels that they are writers' reads.
