Bishop of Tripoli Begs for Us to Stop Blowing Up His People
The missiles are falling everywhere and, unfortunately, not only affect military zones, but also civilian areas" — Bishop of Tripoli: NATO bombs a Coptic church. Civilian Casualties. Mentioned is "the active presence of more than three thousand migrant Filipino Catholics, working in different hospitals in the city and throughout the country," who "attend Mass every week in the cathedral despite the bombings" and "represent the heart of the local Catholic community and are a testimony of love and service to the Libyan people who suffer."But, of course, as all real Americans know, these peacenik Ivory Tower bishops know nothing of war like real TV-watching suburbanites who have seen "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers". And besides, now that Obama is the standard bearer for nation-building through firepower, the "anti-war left" is as quiescent and content as the End to Evil Right. No more war protests from them. It might get in the way of all that Hope and Change. All agree (except for complete kooks like Kucinich and Paul) that our latest adventure in building the Great Society abroad is The Right Thing to Do--or at least not so bad that we should risk dethroning the God King who will, any minute now, deliver Hope and Change.
"The only strength that is left is faith to understand the mystery of this suffering" — Bombs are becoming our Calvary," says Tripoli bishop. "NATO remains loyal to its bombs. Why aren't other venues tried? It appears no one wants a peaceful solution to the conflict."
