Rolynn Anderson What does it take to compose a Big Short? In other words, how do you write a brilliant short story of fifty-five words (or more)? With The Long and the Short of it: Expand, Adapt, and Publish Your Short Fiction, Paul Alan Fahey encourages you to dabble in, then perfect the ‘short-write’ craft, as he has done over the years. Once you compose a haiku story of fifty-five words, he says, you might want to ‘riff-write’ the plot to a thousand words, then move on to two thousand. It’s fun and experimental, says Fahey, and because he shows you all his own wonderful renditions of the art, he makes it obvious that we can write short, and enjoy it! Of this kind of fiction, I’ve become a fan!
