In Daughter Denied, Alretha Thomas presents a beautiful and touching story of a young, precocious, and vulnerable seven year old named Tina as she grows up in a home bordering on dysfunction. This author carefully and methodically takes you through young Tina’s childhood as she interacted with her family and friends. You were able to observe her as she encountered many difficult situations and challenges. In spite of the author’s beautiful portrayal of Tina during her most difficult times, it was hard to understand why so much pressure was placed on a child at such a young age. Although there were moments you wish that you could have stepped in and given her a reassuring hug, this was a very beautifully written and touching story and it ended very graciously for young Tina. This novel was equally enjoyed by my wife Nina and she asked that I recommend it to other readers as well.
