Estelle met him over the summer and heard his voice when she was pinned in a weird cylinder in the Veterinary Clinic. Now Estelle and her friend Diane meet Toby at university. Diane pinched her arm and whispered, “Introduce me.” Rolling her eyes, Estelle said, “My friend’s Diane Stewart.” “Hi Diane.” He glanced at her eager face, and apparently unimpressed, his gaze quickly returned to Estelle. “I’m in Engineering. Got to run; next class starts in a minute. See you around.” He strode away without a backward glance, walking across the lawn with a slight swagger in his stride, as if he knew they were watching. “Great tattoos,” Diane squealed. “He can bump into me any time.”
