The Summer Will Be Special at SROP

A Harlot of Venus by Richard McGowan This year, June 1 marks the 22nd anniversary of the first edition of A Harlot of Venus. Believe it or not, the book was first published on floppy disk by Spectrum Press of Chicago in 1994. About two years later, on July 15, 1996, it was published on pulpy paper by Masquerade Press of New York. You can still find the Masquerade edition around on the used market, usually going for much more money than you would pay for a brand new beautiful paperback "second edition" put out by Smashed-Rat-on-Press (2010). No edition prior to the SROP edition had the beautiful cover and two internal illustrations by Christine Larsen. It was the first of five covers that she has done for SROP.

Why is the Rodent bothering to mention any of this information?

Well. As another bit of celebration to mark this year's SROP 40th Anniversary, the book has been completely re-typeset to match the rest of the Martian Women series. Why was that necessary? Being the first of the series published in this edition by SROP, HoV was experimentally set in Adobe Jenson which feels wimpy on the page for this material. After that, we settled on Warnock for A Dancer of Argyre and the rest of the series.

And that's what we know... Oh, wait... May is Short Story Month or something, isn't it...?

Don't forget to waste your Saturday afternoon by flipping back through the SROP blogs for super-secret giveaways like Moldgasm and loads of free e-book offers, some of which are short.
