How not to report a death digitally

In the "what were you thinking category" ESPN had to come out and apologize for the insensitive treatment around the recent death of an Alabama football player.

A reporter at ESPN posted the above following the death of an Alabama football player

Following the unexpected death of 21-year-old Alabama offensive lineman Aaron Douglas ESPN "Insider" Albert Lin focused on what players would benefit (i.e., take over the starting roll) with the passing of Douglas (see screen shot above).

We keep seeing mistakes like this in the digital world since everyone is moving so fast to get the scoop or cover it from a certain angle.  Yet, there is no excuse for this type of insensitivity.

Our condolences go out to the Douglas family.
