Short Story Month Reading Update

I've read a good number of short stories this month. I like to jump between collections written by different authors to keep things mixed up.

Here's what I've read so far in May.

Note: My favorites are marked with an asterisk.

By Flannery O'Conner
A Stroke of Good Fortune
A Temple of the Holy Ghost
The Artificial Nigger*
A Circle in the Fire*

By Israel Finn
Stranded
No Such Thing as Monsters

By Jason Parent
Unseemly

By James Newman
Dirty Black Summer
Bless This Meal, O Lord
Suffer the Children
Always Digging
Keeping Up with the Joneses
A Town Called Hatred*
Holy Rollers

By Craig Saunders
Mr. Wobble
Doubloons
Pour your Beer Slow
People need People...to Eat
Red
The Last Cold Day
Rubble
Playing Favourites
The Dead Have Feelings, Too

Have you been performing your civic duty and reading short stories this month? If so, please feel free to let me know what's good.

Reanna Some of these look pretty interesting, remind me to come back when I have some time to add these. I've just picked up a Shirley Jackson collection, Let Me Tell You, that seemed pretty interesting as most of it was supposedly unpublished work. We'll see how that turns out soon.

Hey, thanks for the recommendation. I really like Jackson. I've added Let Me Tell You to my towering TBR pile.

P.J. O'Brien Thanks for the reminder that it's short story month.* Inspired by your blog posting, I lingered longer than I should have on a short-reads site this morning and have accomplished absolutely nothing that I'd planned to do today. But I read some really interesting shorts; that should count, right?

And for the record, I also like Shirley Jackson and Flannery O'Connor. And that fella Gregor Xane writes some very intriguing short stories too. :-)

*Who decides these things anyway, and why does the month's theme always seem to be the opposite of what I happen to be reading? Is it Long Historical Fiction Set in South America month somewhere in the world? South America maybe?

Yes, Jackson and O'Conner are great. I will read all of their stuff eventually.

And I have no idea who gets to decide what month is what. I think anyone can make such a declaration, so you should think about what June should be and prepare to stake your claim.
