We all know the saying. Never judge a book by its cover. Ironic isn't it? The one thing we openly judge by its cover is a book.
Is is wrong? Not at all. I just read an article on a reviewing site that said they get 50 requests a day. A DAY. So they narrow down the choices by the professionalism of the request, and that absolutely includes the cover. There are thousands of ebooks available so there has to be some criteria for narrowing it down and the cover is the most obvious way.
The importance of presentation was made very clear to me when I went out to dinner with my family a few nights ago. I rarely buy oranges for my kids because they never eat them. But when we went out to dinner they brought each plate with a half dozen thinly sliced pieces of orange with the peel. The kids devoured them! Same orange - different presentation.
So, what kind of cover catches your eye when looking for a book? Or, what turns you off about a cover?
I'll start. I like a sharp cover. Everything in focus with maybe a symbol or number, bright colors and a clear title, big enough to read clearly.
