Book review: The Island of Heavenly Daze

In a time of rising gas prices, when travel is restricted and you just need to GET AWAY for a little while, here's the perfect answer.

A little island off the coast of Maine, touristy and quirky, with a small resident population and fascinating interactions -- and a little bit of resident, angelic interference and oversight, to boot.

Welcome to the little island of Heavenly Daze, with seven resident angels, sent by God generations ago in answer to an old sea captain's prayer.

The Island of Heavenly Daze, by Lori Copeland and Angela Hunt, is the first in a series of five books -- I have them all now, and look forward to reading them one after another.

Fans of Cedar Cove or Cabot Cove or Mitford will most likely be delighted to find another off-the-beaten-track place where you can settle down and get to know the residents and get involved in their daily lives, their foibles and hubris and sometimes sad, sometimes humorous, sometimes painful, but always interesting adventures.

In the first book, Rev. Winslow Wickam is celebrating 10 years of service on the island -- but his congregation has some surprises for him he never anticipated. And Olympia de Cuvier, the grande dame of the island, has to face some unpleasant truths about herself.

Then there's Tallulah, Olympia's far-ranging tank of a little dog, who gets in trouble and has her own set routine for the day. She's a hoot and a half, and I can't help wondering if there's a 'romance' waiting down the road for her and Butch the bulldog ... or at least a truce!

Come visit Heavenly Daze. And if you get a hankering to go visit the coast of Maine to find out if the island really does exist, don't blame me!
