The Shadow Reader's Cover Art is Here!

In case you missed it on Twitter and Facebook yesterday, I can finally reveal the cover for THE SHADOW READER!

Isn’t it gorgeous?! I honestly couldn’t ask for a better cover. The artist, Gene Mollica, captured McKenzie perfectly. I love her serious expression, I love how her hair is blowing in the wind, and the sword id pretty kick-ass, too. My other favorite part: the magical, swirly background. If you look closely, you can see mountains in the mix, and since McKenzie tracks fae by reading the shadows, I like to think that’s what’s happening here. A fae just fissured out and this is what McKenzie sees.

I am so happy to be an Ace author! I can’t begin to tell you how nerve-wracking it is waiting to see your first cover. Authors, especially debut authors, have so little influence when it comes to the final product, and a book’s cover is the first thing readers see. It could turn them off immediately… or it could make them pick up the book and read the back cover or the first few pages. So when the email came from my editor saying “Cover is here!” I sat and stared at the subject line without scrolling down to see the picture. I sat there for a loooooooong time before I let myself take a peek. Would I love it? Would I hate it? I finally opened up the image and… rejoiced! I seriously couldn’t ask for a better cover. <3 <3 <3

And I just realized this week that I have less than six months until publication! The Shadow Reader releases on October 25, 2011, and I am so stoked!

Donna Lee I googled the book this morninng and was excited to see it on Amazon. I was happy to read that you like the cover! I'm looking forward to the October 25 date for another reason too - my daughter is the model on your cover. She was excited to do this shoot and we are all looking forward to the release (which happens to be the day before her birthday! I used the Suggest-A-Title on the Orange County Library System website to request that they purchase copies of it - I work for the library and can't wait to observe its popularity among young adults and I look forward to shelving it!
