A couple of upcoming appearances

This weekend I'll be appearing at The Muse and the Marketplace, Grub Street's annual conference, giving a seminar/workshop/hang-out session on Writing Funny for Young Readers.

Looking ahead, I'm going to New York on Weds, May 25 to hang out at the Book Expo America, where I'll be doing not one but two book signings. Check back for details, or email me.

I wish I could say that I've read your books, but the truth is that I haven't. I do, however, own Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and Android Karenina, and they have a nice, anticipated spot among my to-read books.

My mom, who is a freelance writer, attended the Grub Street conference. She was present for various seminars, and was swooning over the fact that Ron Carlson was the keynote speaker. She also reported that the Quirk Classics that I've been into lately were on a table among other books for book signings. When she told me that Android Karenina was one of them, I asked her if there was a Ben Winters who was there. She said the name sounded familiar (suffice to say, she reads more for her career than for pleasure; or maybe she just doesn't like robots and lobsters). We checked out the names of the different workshops and found your name under "Writing Funny for Young Readers." Regardless of our taste in literature, we had a bit of a laugh over the coincidence, that is, after I complained about the lack of autograph.

I don't know how appreciated the anecdote from my otherwise uninteresting life will be taken, but I thought that it was amusing enough to muster up some courage and post a comment that related to a blurb on your goodreads account.

You're admiring fan who hasn't actually read any of your work,

Ben Winters Thanks for the note, Clinton! I hope you do get a chance to read the books -- and for the record, I slightly prefer Android of the two, but perhaps it's just cuz I wrote it more recently.

Very best

Ben
