Beginning not End

Christians' most important week of the year is underway. Good Friday draws near; Easter lures us toward Sunday.

All of which reminds me of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Who? Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor in Germany as Hitler was rising to power. Hitler imprisoned thousands of Catholic priests and Protestant pastors in concentration camps as he sought to impose his will on the Church in Germany. Bonhoeffer offered resistance. He organized an underground community of believers to speak out against the Holocaust and false worship of Hitler, much like the function the underground Church in China serves today. Bonhoeffer courageously created a seminary to train pastors for the future who would not be under Hitler's thumb.

Eventually, Hitler's thugs arrested Bonhoeffer in 1943 and ultimately placed him in Flossenburg camp. There, Bonhoeffer inspired and helped nourish the souls of his fellow   >>>>>   Read Entire Post
