Can a book that starts slow make you excited by the end?

Surely it can. First book of Morpheus Road Trilogy, The Light is a perfect example for that. When I started this book about 10-15% in I was very much bored. Nothing much happened since then. But when it took off it rolled like a corkscrew and moved like a roller-coaster.
