Useful Farm Critters

I've always wondered why some farmers keep some critters around.  Like, what's the point of ducks if you don't eat them?.
Turns out, ducks slaughter slugs and snails in the garden.
.
And Guinea Fowl?  I remember my aunt used to have a few.  THEY KILL TICKS!  They do, and mosquitos too.  They can even kill snakes.  Here's a link to learn more about these amazing birds-   http://mymilescity.com/guineafowl/
.
Set a pig loose in your garden as soon as the snow melts and he'll till it for you, and fertilize (poop) it at the same time.
.
Sheep make great lawn mowers, and they fertilize as they work too.
.
When I think about how modern Americans dote on their pets, it makes think it's because we humans have always had a partnership with animals.  It's just nowadays most of us don't need them to do anything except look cute and snuggle.
.
That reminds me of a t-shirt I found at Backyard Chickens  which reads 'My Pet Makes Me Breakfast!'
