Michael Deveraux

One of the more interesting characters to write for Wicked was the villain (or rather, one of them) Michael Deveraux. He's deliciously scary and evil, but handsome and charismatic. One of the games at my house is Who Would You Cast in the Movie of the Book? And fans and interviewers seem to enjoy this game as well. Well, a lot of names have been thrown out there by people, suggestions for who should play Michael Deveraux. Some of them are fascinating ideas. I went to Megacon this weekend (as an attendee, not a guest) and I have a new answer as to who I would cast as Michael Deveraux.

John Schneider.

Yes, that's right, Bo Duke, Jonathan Kent, John Schneider.

The man is getting better looking the older he gets and he is very charismatic. Also, he's a magician. He's taken on the role of villain in a few recent outings as well. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought he could bring that twisted father-son relationship that Michael has with both Jer and Eli. I think it would be fascinating.

And speaking of villains. Here's my picks for Top 5 Movie Villains:

Darth Vader (original trilogy David Prowse – body, James Earl Jones – voice, Bob Anderson – fencing)

The Joker (Heath Ledger)

Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman)

The Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman)

Megamind (Will Ferrell)
