Sleaze and bbq!
Well, a LOVELY morning spent at the Paperback Book Collector's Show. Saw my favorite people - Mel Gilden, Larry Niven, Tim Powers (who had an autograph line out the door!), Michael Kurland, the inimitable and unmistakable George Clayton Johnson... others less well-known to me, John deChancie, Karen Anderson, Ann Bannon. By noon I was famished, so missed seeing Harry Turtledove and Jerry Pournelle in favor of going with friends to the usual jawdroppingly good lunch at Dr. Hoggly-Woggly's Tyler Texas Barbeque. Carnivore Central! They run the kitchen on a Fight World Hunger basis - a "plate" of beef-ribs will serve me 2 more meals at home (I've ridden in smaller cars).
This after mountains of sleazy paperbacks with titles like Viet Cong Torture Camp and Anatomy of a Neighbor (with chesty babes in their underwear on the cover - who knew?). Even glimpsed some of the teen-age hot-rod cautionary tales my sister and I used to read in Jr. High (as Middle School was called back then...)
I WILL finish Ben January #11 this afternoon (I believe the title is going to be simply, Ran Away , after the slug-line that starts numerous absconded-slave ads in the New Orleans newspaper over the years). And do lots of laundry.
And maybe even get to play Tomb Raider tonight.
