BREAKING POINT gets a starred review from PW!

I was hoping for good news — any kind of good news today. My prayers were heard and delicious excitement was delivered to my e-mail Inbox in the form of a starred review for Breaking Point from Publisher's Weekly.

For those of you who aren't familiar with PW, the publication doesn't review very many romances. Of the books the editors choose to review — books of all kinds, not just romance — those found to have special merit are given a star. So one star from Publisher's Weekly beats five stars from pretty much everywhere else.

And what did PW have to say? I thought you'd never ask!

Pamela Clare. Berkley Sensation, $7.99 ISBN 978-0-425-24051-9

Clare's fifth I-Team novel (after Naked Edge) sizzles with constant adventure and romance. U.S. Marshal Zach McBride is the unwilling guest of Mexican drug lords when he meets another prisoner, American journalist Natalie Benoit. The two join forces to escape and make their way across the treacherous Mexican desert toward the U.S. border. Their romance and mutual attraction develop as they share their unhappy life stories and dodge their enemies in one harrowing encounter after another. Natalie's initial fragility is juxtaposed against Zach's stalwart nature as he helps unearth her hidden strengths and she encourages him to listen to his heart. Complex characterizations and a fast-paced plot filled with sensual romance and mystery make this a highly enjoyable read for newcomers and series fans alike. (May)

This is the first time PW has reviewed one of my I-Team books, though they've done reviews of both Surrender and Untamed. Untamed also got a starred review, while Surrender merely received a very positive review.

I've also heard that RT Book Reviews gave Breaking Point four stars. Here's what their reviewer wrote:

"Clare consistently delivers! Breaking Point is packed with gut-wrenching tension, tragedy, romance and passion. The characters are riveting and the story of Mexican drug lords, journalists fighting for the truth and marshals seeking justice is timely and effective."

This is a step up from Naked Edge, which got a measly three stars from RT.

I just wanted to share the great news with you. It certainly made my day!

Rhonda *claps and squeals with excitement*

That is so great Pamela, I can't wait!!

Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* A starred review from Publishers Weekly? Oh, that is excellent news Pamela! BRAVO! *claps along with Rhonda*

I like how they said this:

"Natalie's initial fragility is juxtaposed against Zach's stalwart nature as he helps unearth her hidden strengths and she encourages him to listen to his heart. Complex characterizations and a fast-paced plot filled with sensual romance and mystery make this a highly enjoyable read for newcomers and series fans alike."

I totally agree!

I'm so happy for you, Pamela. Well deserved!

Pamela Hi, Rhonda — Thanks for the claps and squeals. I had the exact same reaction, actually. LOL! I'm very excited for the book's release.

Hi, Lady Jayne — Thank you so much! I particularly liked that part, too. I DO try to create complex characters and situations that aren't easily resolved. I can't tell you how happy I am that they actually reviewed the book.

And thanks so much for your claps, too. :-)

message 4: by MelissaB (new)

MelissaB Congratulations Pamela!!! Can't wait to read Breaking Point!

How the heck couldn't they give Surrender a starred review? Come on, it's amazing! Yeah I might be a Surrender fangirl.

message 5: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Melissa, when I think of Iain, I think of you. Honestly. That's why I really wanted you to be able to make RangerCon. If anyone should walk the ground where the real rangers walked, it's you.

No, no starred review for SURRENDER, but the review was fantastically positive anyway. Their one criticism was prose that at times got purple. I wasn't sure I agreed, but hey. Being mentioned in PW at all is a great thing.

UNTAMED got the star. And those two are the only books of mine they've reviewed — until today. :-)

message 6: by Norma (new)

Norma So excited for you! I cannot wait to read Breaking Point!!!

message 7: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Thank you, Norma! It means a lot to me that you all share my excitement. :-)

message 8: by Norma (new)

Norma I have to admit that it's somewhat self-serving. After all, I get to read a good book! ;)

message 9: by Lynsey A (last edited Mar 23, 2011 05:17PM) (new)

Lynsey A Fabulous news, Pamela! Like Melissa, I am dying to read Breaking Point!

RT only gave 3* to Naked Edge? Tsk, tsk. I love all of your books. Now, every romantic suspense book I read I compare to yours and they just don't compare. :)

message 10: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Fantastic news Pamela! Congratulations, can't wait!

message 11: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Aw, that's sweet, Norma! I hope BP lives up to your wildest expectations.

Hi, Lynsey — yes, RT gave NAKED EDGE three stars. Since then, it's won AAR's readers vote for Favorite Romantic Suspense and was a DABWAHA finalist, as well as a finalist for Best Romance here on Goodreads. Not bad for a three-star novel, eh?

Wendy, thank you so much! It totally made my day! Only 40 days, 5 hours and 17 minutes to go.

message 12: by Beanbag (new)

Beanbag Love Wow! Congratulations! I won't comment on RT's 3 star review except to say I'm surprised an outfit with the word "Romantic" in their title didn't get the power of Gabe. Shame.

The excitement is building for BP! I think it's going to be a huge success.

message 13: by Lynsey A (new)

Lynsey A Pamela, well, you showed them, huh? :) That one was my favorite of the series. As Beanbag mentions one important word: Gabe. :) Loved him as a hero. Absolutely, swoon worthy. Any man who is willing to sacrifice what he did is absolutely the best man in the world. *sighs*

message 14: by Kim (new)

Kim High five, Pamela! I'm very proud of you!

message 15: by Pamela (new)

Pamela LOL, Beanbag! They definitely did not. Or at least that reviewer didn't. I think a lot of readers were thrown off by Kat more than anything. And thanks! I hope you're right! With all my heart, I hope so.

Pamela Lynsey A wrote: "Pamela, well, you showed them, huh? :) That one was my favorite of the series. As Beanbag mentions one important word: Gabe. :) Loved him as a hero. Absolutely, swoon worthy. Any man who is willing..."

I guess I did, Lynsey. I, too, find the idea of a man willing to give his life without hesitation for the woman he loves to be desperately romantic.

I'm still waiting to meet my "Gabe." :-)

message 17: by Karla (new)

Karla Congratulations! In my humble opinion all your books deserve 5 stars x 2!!

message 18: by Sherylb (new)

Sherylb Congrats Pamela! I am anxiously awaiting Breaking Point, I just noticed that it is available for preorder on the Kindle!!

I should also tell you that I am not a re-reader but last week I downloaded Hard Evidence and loved it the second time. I also downloaded Unlawful Contact and plan on re-reading that and Naked Edge before BP comes out. Congratulations on all of your success, your books are great!

message 19: by Mrs. (new)

Mrs. Badass Awesome, congrats and continued success!

message 20: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Hi, Kim — You sneaked in behind me there. Thanks so much! A high five back at you. :-)

Aw, thanks so much, Karla. You're so sweet to say that. That would be a lot of stars, but I'll take them.

Hi, Sherylb — Yes! BREAKING POINT finally came up for pre-order on Kindle. Thank goodness! I got a lot of emails asking whether or not it was going to be available in that format.

I'm so glad you felt the books were worth a second reading, especially since you don't normally do that. You'll be totally ready for BP by the time it comes out, for sure.

Hi, Erika — Thank you so very much! :-)

message 21: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita Congratz!! :D

If I'm not win, I will pre-ordered it from bookdepository, later ^^

message 22: by MBR (new)

MBR Wow! Congratulations Pamela. I guess you won't be needing our ratings for BP then ^_~

I try not to think of just how long a wait is still left for BP's release so that on the release day I would just wake up and say, hell yeah, today is the day I get Jed Hill on my Kindle. Can't wait!! ^_^
