Raisin Bread

Raisin bread

oh, Raisin bread

I put you in the oven

with plenty of butter

and

a flat egg on the side

with pepper and sea salt

and yes

you didn’t think so

but

I could make a revolution out of this

my poems

I do it for fun

because

bread is heavily underestimated

like

who says I’m high-calorie

high-fat

screw you

I bet you

they’ll serve me

in New Kensington

I’m just a loaf

trying to get a nut

or two

in my holes

to fill up the emptiness

I feel when I get burnt

but really

why hate on me

what did I ever do to you

except

exist

after rising on a sunny day

Oprah likes me

why can’t you
