Now, if you're writing in the realm of realism and you want to seem like events could happen, you just don't write implausible, or impossible to happen, scenes. A well researched person would know that you can't pull a pin from a grenade with your mouth. Period. And so those scenes jolt the intelligent reader out of the book because it goes from realism to fantasy, something this book isn't supposed to do.
I had a couple of other issues with the book, but overall, it was a good read. A solid 3.5, IMO.
